From the arid, dusty plains of Bagan and the rich red clay soils of Shan State, to the floating gardens of Inle Lake and the verdant green rice paddies along the Delta, Myanmar is awash in farming activities. The fields and gardens are sometimes stunning, often immaculate, but always seemingly lush and productive. In this country especially, the diet is always local - you know exactly where your lettuce, beans, gourds and coffee come from. And as with seemingly everything in this country, the farming and gardening is performed by hand. Perhaps with the assistance of animals, but rarely with the help of machinery. No mono culture or corn subsidies to be found here.
